Greensboro Police Department - Chief Ossie Mapp
I am the son of Arthur (deceased) and Geneva Mapp of Greene County, Georgia. I have four sisters (Diane, Annie, Vera and Vickie) and one brother (Arthur). I have a son (Minister Deondre Mapp) and a daughter (Tameka Mapp) who graduates from college in December 2007. I have three wonderful and blessed grandchildren (Imoni, Cemon, and Sidney).
I am a graduate of Greene County High School. My career in law enforcement began in 1983 with the City of Union Point Police Department as a police officer, where I remained for (10) years. In 1993, I came to work with the City of Greensboro Police Department. I was an Officer, a Detective, the Captain, and presently the Chief of Police. My law enforcement training consists of over 2000 hours of police training from the Northeast Georgia Police Academy, the University of Columbus, and the Armstrong State University. I am presently pursuing an Associate Degree at the University of Phoenix.
I am a member of the New Springfield Baptist Church, Siloam, Georgia, where I serve as a Deacon, Usher and on the Building Committee. My church family and I are dedicated to helping those in the community who are in need and less fortunate than others.
I am the Founder/CEO of G.A.M. Rentals in which I established in 2005. I realized the need for more affordable housing for those who could not afford to own their own homes.
I am dedicated to making Greensboro and Greene County a better and safer place for all citizens to live, work, and enjoy. The Greensboro Police Department is growing due to an increase in population and the growth along the I-20 & Highway 44 Corridor. I am placing more officers along the city streets and we are monitoring areas in which the volume of traffic has increased. I encourage all to report any suspicious activities in your neighborhood.
